The world's largest desert and Mars!!

The world's largest desert and Mars!!

What is the largest desert in the world?

 Antarctica!!

But why? In Antarctica, ice is ice. And there is no water in deserts. Yes no!! To understand this, we have to see what deserts are actually called. A desert is a part of the earth where there is very little rainfall throughout the year and where there are very few animals, birds or trees etc. compared to the rest of the land. Where actually living is impossible.

Antarctica is the coldest region on earth. The annual average temperature here remains less than minus 57 degrees.

: So there is no rain in such cold weather. However, since Antarctica is located at the South Pole of the Earth, there are only two seasons here.. Long winters and long summers. In summer, when the temperature goes above zero on the coast near it, it sometimes rains. Similarly, the snowfall here is very less throughout the year. As for animals, there are only a few animals living in the surrounding seas, including penguins, seals, whales or some water birds. Penguins live in colonies on frozen ice on beaches near here in Antarctica. They are so numerous that scientists working in Antarctica cannot count them

: So they estimate their colonies and numbers from images taken by satellites in space. Their colonies are easy to spot from space on white Antarctica. Reason? The color of their stool is reddish almond. When seen from space on the white snow, lines of this color are visible, with which their colonies can be easily found.

And speaking of plants, in such a cold area where there is snow everywhere, what kind of tree or plant can grow? However, there is algae or moss in some places near the waters. Similarly, there are about twelve types of flowering plants in the northern region of Antarctica. Where did these plants come from in such a cold and isolated corner of the world? His story is long.

: But in short, about 200 million years ago, Antarctica, Africa, India, Australia and South America were all part of a huge continent called Gondwana. The tectonic plates inside the earth on which all the earth's crusts are floating, with the slow movement of these plates, these crusts were separated from each other and the plants on them also went with them. Antarctica, slowly breaking away from Gondwana, drifted to Earth's North Pole about 70 million years ago.

: Here, due to harsh climates, many living things became extinct over time, but only a few plants learned the art of survival through evolution. How do we know all this? Because we have found fossils of the same ancient organisms in Antarctica and on other continents that complete the story. Apart from this, by knowing the speed and direction of the movement of the tectonic plates of the earth, scientists can tell under the computer models how all these continents were connected in the past. Well, all the evils are now slowly changing their existing places and after 25 million years from now all these evils will once again connect with each other

: Antarctica is important to scientists in many ways. Here, all year round, scientists from all over the world conduct scientific experiments and discoveries in harsh conditions and extreme cold. NASA also continues to monitor the weather of Antarctica and the changes happening here from space. The purpose of which is to know the effect of climate change in the world.

: If the ice in Antarctica begins to melt rapidly, the water level in the world's oceans will rise by several feet, which could submerge all of the world's water bodies.

Apart from this, NASA also conducts experiments regarding the food requirements of humans in space. In fact, even in space, sunlight does not fall on the body of astronauts and we know that sunlight produces vitamins that are essential for human health. Therefore, scientists living in Antarctica who are not exposed to sunlight for long periods of time have known physical and psychological effects.

But the most important thing is that NASA also tests many robots here that are going to be sent to Mars. This is because both Antarctica and Mars are cold and both are as dry as deserts.

: Another important thing, fragments of meteorites that fall on Earth also fall in Antarctica and here scientists can easily find them in the white snow. Due to the climate here, they are preserved in a slightly better condition. Thus, by analyzing these meteorites, we can learn more about the past of the solar system and the Earth.
